Q. You once lived in St. Thomas, why did you ever leave?
A. I hear this one a lot. It was my first job out of college too! I did pretty much everything there in my two plus years. I started out a sports reporter for the Virgin Islands Daily News, I was a DJ at several stations and finally landed the Sports Director job at the then CBS affiliate WBNB-TV. I got ambitious, wanted a bigger career in TV so it was time to leave the sunshine, warmth and beaches.
Q. I really like Alex Koves, former All-Pro football player and ex-CIA agent. Was he modeled after anyone you know?
A. Alex is a character that’s been with me for a long time. Totally made up from my imagination. It’s eerie though because a reader, who runs a threat assessment and global security company in DC with government contracts, asked me if I knew someone like Alex. When I told him “No,” I asked did he? He replied he used to work with a guy who was a former football player, turned spy. He said his friend would get a big kick out of Sandstorm.
Q. There were several interesting characters in Sandstorm besides Alex Koves that I hope to read more about. Will they be back?
A. At some point, they will all make return appearances. Probably not in book two, but for certain, you’ll be reading about them again – especially Nathan Yadin.
